初夏时节，在威海文登南海新区五垒岛湾，成群的斑尾塍鹬在潮间带踱步觅食、盘旋飞舞，灵动景致勾勒出壮观的滨海生态美景，成为一道独特的自然风景线。

斑尾塍鹬是极具代表性的长距离迁徙候鸟，拥有鸟类界“飞行冠军”的美誉，具备超强迁徙能力，迁徙途中可实现超长距离不间断飞行，创下鸟类不间断飞行上万公里的世界纪录，是全球知名的“超长续航”候鸟。斑尾塍鹬被《世界自然保护联盟（IUCN）》列入濒危物种红色名录，同时为国家“三有”保护野生动物，生态保护价值极高。

作为严苛的生态指示物种，斑尾塍鹬对栖息环境要求极高。南海新区坚守生态优先、绿色发展理念，持续推进湿地修复和岸线综合治理等重点工程，构建起河海湿地互联互通的完整生态系统，为鸟儿营造了安全、稳定、优质的栖息觅食环境，已成为300多种鸟类的栖息家园。

In early summer, flocks of bar-tailed godwits stroll and forage across the intertidal flats or wheel and soar overhead at Wuleidao Bay in Nanhai New Area, Wendeng, Weihai. Their graceful movements paint a spectacular coastal ecological landscape, forming a distinctive natural scenic highlight.

As iconic long-distance migratory birds, bar-tailed godwits earn the moniker of "aviation champions of the avian world" thanks to their exceptional migratory prowess. Capable of nonstop ultra-long-distance flight during migration, they hold the avian record for travelling over ten thousand kilometres without landing, renowned worldwide as the feathered travellers with extraordinary endurance. Listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the bar-tailed godwit is also classified as a terrestrial wild animal with important ecological, scientific and social values under China’s state protection regulations, boasting immense conservation significance.

Serving as rigorous ecological indicator species, bar-tailed godwits impose exacting standards on their living habitats. Adhering to the philosophy of prioritising ecological conservation and pursuing green development, Nanhai New Area has steadily advanced flagship projects including wetland restoration and comprehensive shoreline remediation. These efforts have forged an interconnected integrated aquatic ecosystem linking rivers and coastal wetlands, creating safe, stable and high-quality feeding and roosting grounds for wild birds. The region has evolved into a home to more than 300 avian species.
